Opt-in post for the Wit and the Skill
Feb. 17th, 2018 08:36 pmThis page has some information about Fitz's ability with the Skill and the Wit
Basically the Wit gives Fitz an awareness of animals in particular, but also of humans. He can reach out wordlessly or with words, to animals in particular. He can also do a general repel which is a self-protective thing (that's usually reflexive; he doesn't do it much these days as he has a lot more control). This repel can make someone step back, like a dash of cold water in the face. There is an ability to attract / calm with the Wit, too, but at this point in canon Fitz doesn't actually know how to do that. He might learn at some point. If you might be interested in Fitz doing that with yours, please let me know.
Even canonically, if he reaches for someone with the Wit, they won't necessarily answer him. So if your character is non-human, they can ignore him, or push him away. But they could also choose to instigate communication with him that way if they wanted to.
He has a general sense of all creatures (incl humans) as being part of the web of life, so he might be aware of someone even if said someone thinks they're hiding from him. This is an OPT-IN ability though! Please let me know if it's okay for Fitz to be aware of your character, if he wouldn't be aware through normal methods.
The Skill is more about touching someone, a human, mind to mind. (The Skill and the Wit can overlap though.) There can be some psychometric ability too, and some general ability to influence. E.g. one time he canonically builds on someone's need to pee and broadcasts that to a group, to get the group meeting over with.
Basically, if you are open to your character having some interaction with him via the Wit or the Skill, or if you have any questions, please let me know. Otherwise I'll assume that it's only the basics. Thanks!

I would also appreciate it if you could take a look at her permissions

Ooh, on my way!

Because of this, Valdis is a creature of chaos, and her death magic has been corrupted. Had she gained the full powers of an Angel of Death, she would have the ability to give life as well as take it, but the Void tries to prevent that side of the magic from ever manifesting. So while she is Death, she is technically also Life. Not sure how much Fitz would be able to sense about that, however.
I think that their communication when she is in hound form might be affected by his Wit ability. Wit’s ability to repel, and the calming part of it, actually might prove useful in several scenarios, especially if she is in hounds form, so we could play with that.
His Skill would be interesting as well, especially because the Void likes to mess with people when they initiate a psychic bond. It might decide to intrude upon those conversations, which could be fun for us, though not necessarily for our characters.

WOW that's HUGE, poor Valdis! [nodding] I don't think he'd pick up the specifics, but he has a very good sense / nose for when something is Wrong, or Different, in terms of life.
I'd love to play with you and Valdis when she's in hound form, wow. Does it affect her senses? He'd be very interested in that, partly because one of the completely untrue rumours about the Wit is that people with it can shape change. If she's upset or angry he could be very helpful (or could very accidentally make it worse).
I love that idea, wow. How does it mess with people?

Date: 2018-03-02 03:14 am (UTC)As for how the Void messes with people, it usually tries to call out things it has observed through Valdis' senses, such as her empathy. It pushes at weaknesses, often those associated with sins, plays with insecurities ect. Valdis has learned to tune it out and can force it to leave if she's in a stable mindset. But it likes getting its two cents in.
